Independent verification

Independent EPD verification, by qualified humans

Third-party verification of your EPD and its underlying LCA, conflict-free, programme-operator-compliant, and on a timeline you can plan around.

  • ISO 14025
  • EN 15804+A2

Typical timeline: Typically 2 to 6 weeks from receipt of a complete LCA package.

What it is

EPD verification is the independent third-party review that confirms an EPD and its underlying Life Cycle Assessment comply with the relevant standards and Product Category Rules. Without verification, an EPD cannot be registered with a programme operator or published. Verification must be carried out by a party that is independent of the LCA practitioner, which is why we structurally separate this service from our LCA and EPD consultancy work.

Why it matters

Programme operators, regulators and large customers will challenge an EPD that has been “verified” by the same team that wrote it. Using a separate, qualified verifier, whether that is us, or another independent party, is what makes the EPD defensible.

Who verifies your EPD

Led by a registered verifier

Verifications at ViridisPride are led by Stephen Forson, a registered EPD verifier with the International EPD System, IBU (Germany), EPD Norge, the Irish Green Building Council and Global Green Tag. Stephen is also a member of Eco Platform and the Alliance for Sustainable Building Products (ASBP).

Holding active registrations with five recognised programme operators means we can match the verification to your target market — whether that is European construction product disclosure, Irish BREEAM-credited projects, IBU-listed German publications, or programme-specific declarations for non-European markets.

What we check

A rigorous, itemised review

  • Compliance with ISO 14025 and EN 15804+A2 (or ISO 21930 for construction products in non-European markets).
  • Alignment with the relevant Product Category Rules.
  • Goal, scope, system boundary and functional unit.
  • Data quality, data sources and representativeness.
  • Inventory completeness and the treatment of cut-off and allocation rules.
  • Impact assessment method, characterisation factors and any deviations.
  • The EPD document itself — content, transparency and the declared modules.
What you get

The deliverable

  • 1A formal verification statement.
  • 2The verification report.
  • 3A clear list of any findings you need to address before publication.
The process

How an EPD Verification project runs

  1. 01

    Scope

We confirm the PCR, programme requirements and the documentation needed, and confirm our independence from the data preparation.

  2. 02

    Document review

We examine the EPD, the underlying LCA model, data sources and calculations against the standard.

  3. 03

    Conformance check

We test PCR alignment, module coverage (A1–C4 and D), allocation, cut-off rules and data quality.

  4. 04

    Findings

We issue findings and work with you to resolve any non-conformities transparently.

  5. 05

    Verification

We issue the independent verification statement, ready for registration.

FAQs

Common questions

ISO 14025 requires Type III declarations to be verified by a party independent of the LCA and EPD preparation. Independence is what makes the declaration credible to specifiers and regulators.
